An Oregon outdoor wedding is more than choosing a beautiful backdrop. It is about embracing the landscape, designing a celebration that feels intentional, and creating space for the moments that matter most.

Oregon has no shortage of breathtaking places to say “I do.” From vineyard estates and mountain views to lush garden venues, it’s one of the most beautiful states for couples dreaming of an outdoor celebration.. and easily one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever lived. As a wedding photographer, I’ve photographed weddings across the United States, but the Willamette Valley has my heart for many reasons. One being that the celebrations aren’t just beautiful, they’re thoughtfully planned to embrace the season, the landscape, and the people who matter most.

Max and Averi’s June wedding in the Willamette Valley was a beautiful example of everything that makes an outdoor Oregon wedding so special. With romantic garden details, a muted sunset color palette, and a dance floor filled with their favorite people, their day was joyful, colorful, and full of life.

There is incredibly timeless about celebrating outdoors in Oregon.

I’m a huge believer that the sunlight is different in different parts of the world, and Oregon has such a special sunlight. Not to mention that the Oregon landscape naturally creates the most beautiful backdrops for portraits, the gardens offer layers of texture and color (I’m such a sucker for flowers), and golden summer evenings create some of the most beautiful light of the year.

For couples planning an outdoor wedding in Oregon, some of the most popular settings include:

Featured Oregon Outdoor Wedding: Max & Averi

Max and Averi’s June wedding was the perfect reminder that sometimes summer weddings in Oregon have unexpected weather.

The week leading up to their celebration everyone thought it was going to rain. I was SO sad looking at the forecast. These two are the epitome of sunshine in human form, and I just knew they needed a sunny wedding. You’d think by the end of June you can expect a sunny wedding, but rain is unpredictable in Oregon all year long. Then, almost magically, the clouds cleared and their wedding day arrived with beautiful sunshine.

Their celebration at Green Villa Gardens in Independence, Oregon was filled with romantic garden details, lush florals, and a soft sunset inspired color palette that complemented the natural surroundings perfectly.

Averi began her morning getting ready at The Independence Hotel, surrounded by the excitement of her closest friends and family. The energy of the day was immediately joyful. Many of their guests were college friends and fellow athletes, creating the most uplifting and supportive atmosphere all day long.

Their wedding was filled with the kind of moments that cannot be planned and they were the happiest, joyful couple all day long. And once the dance floor opened, everyone was ready to celebrate.

Creating a Romantic Sunset Inspired Wedding Color Palette

One of my favorite design elements from Max and Averi’s wedding was their muted sunset color palette.Instead of bright, traditional summer colors, their florals featured soft tones of:

• Peach
• Soft Blue
• Apricot
• Blush
• Butter yellow
• Warm coral

These colors worked beautifully with the garden setting because they felt connected to the natural surroundings rather than competing with them.

The truth is, Oregon weather can be unpredictable ALL YEAR LONG, but that does not mean it has to take away from your wedding experience.

Max and Averi’s wedding is the perfect example. After days of rain in the forecast, they were gifted with one of the most beautiful June days.

Still, it’s extremely important to have a rain plan in Oregon no matter what month you are getting married. Believe me, you don’t want to be stressing about ordering dozens of clear umbrellas the day before your wedding… it happens more often than you think. A backup plan allows you to relax and enjoy your day no matter what the forecast says.

Photography Tips for an Oregon Outdoor Wedding

From a photography perspective, outdoor weddings provide the best wedding galleries. A few things that can make your images even more perfect are:

• Plan time for sunset portraits (I’m telling you, Oregon has the most beautiful sunlight!)
